Being Touristy

• Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada •

Seeking silence amongst the hustle and bustle of small tourist communities isn’t too difficult if you have a sense of calm within, and the ability of a long exposure at hand.

As much as I try to distance myself from touristy areas, I somehow was able to mould myself amongst the throngs of people entering the village, one charter bus after another. I thought that the amount of people and the dark, gloomy skies would dampen my mood, but perhaps my skin had thickened from the constant exposure to people that it did not bother me one bit.

When in Banff

• Banff, Alberta, Canada •

… Explore! A Samyang 12mm f2.0 lens, an odd-sounding but functioning vehicle, and an open mind continued to help me uncover treasures as I travelled through the Canadian Rockies.

Losing any expectations I had on the last leg (ie. two days) of the trip widened my horizons, despite not seeing some of the point of interests I had so thoughtfully planned for. Which was odd, because these were the most fulfilling days of my trip out west… or maybe it’s just the magic of Banff.

Beginnings in Banff

• Banff, Alberta, Canada •

A highly-suggested destination in Canada, Banff has so much to offer – from its snow-capped mountains for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, to its recognized, pristine blue lakes for canoeing in the spring, summer, and fall. To simply take a look, walk around, and try to embed the memory of standing in its greatness is also a fine option for all seasons.

Sea-to-Sky and Hwy 99

• Vancouver to Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada •

To think that the mountain ranges are only footsteps away as you look at them from the streets of downtown Vancouver. The captivating beauty that continues as you go further north, towards and past the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Hwy 99), is not a route to miss while in the west.

Many scenic viewpoints and landmarks situated on this route are what propelled me to drive through highway 99 towards Kamloops, heading north on highway 5 and then south, passing through Jasper and Banff, and finally ending at Calgary. Of course, that was the initial plan. If it weren’t for heavy snowfall heading north towards Jasper, a terrifying lack of cell service, and lacking winter tires/chains, we would have taken this route.

We were ill-prepared, but we did make the best of our drive.
